Competition Entry

Penang is a bustling city full of vibrant colours of culture, heritage, nature, and economy. Although being parted by Penang Strait, the two lands support each other with respective functions over the years.

This project is an integrated scheme that aims to instill community values along the waterfront trail at both coasts of Penang Bay, with loops of different functions that complement the existing programs and activities.

​

In this scheme, loops of different programs including arts and culture, recreation, commercial and business, transportation, and eco-tourism are proposed at different points along the coasts of Penang Bay to create a pulic realm where people live, work and play. These individual loops play their own roles at the respective locations, rejuvenating the underutilised spaces, bringing new life into the dormant shorelines.

Thanks to its strategic location at the Southeast Asia, Penang has its potential to grow into a regional capital of business and finance. Thus, Penang Bay is envisaged to attract not only participation from the locals, but also investments from regional and foreign stakeholders. This scheme encompasses involvements of people from the smallest extent, where each loop becomes a focal point for people to wander around, creating bonds and constructive knowledge exchange. The activities gradually expand and attract involvement from other loops, connecting more people, and consequently the place becomes a regional destination.
