Sustainable Housing
@ Bukit Malut, Langkawi
Urban Planning Project
Located at Bukit Malut, Langkawi, this 55.4-acre mixed housing development proposal is a nature-inspired sanctuary surrounded by water and lush tropical greenery. Like most traditional villages established by rivers, this proposal is masterplanned with natural fluidity rather than in an orderly arrangement, to create a natural waterfront settlement flowing along the rivers.
Resembling the veins of nature, the "Green River" flows across all living components, establishing a strong connection between living and nature. The amphibious pathway gradually leads to the social and recreational heart of the neighbourhoods with a diverse park system that connects the community to the region's landscape heritage.

Aimed to promote eco-tourism as well as to foster nature appreciation and education, the continuing waterfront trail provides a missing link between local fishing communities and contemporary living, where the riverside quay amplifies the essence of fishing village through the program and context by integrating water into living compounds.

Mixed Housing Development Proposal - LKIM Housing @ Pulau Langkawi, Kedah

The Masterplan
This 55.4-acre mixed development consists of neighbourhoods ranging from affordable housing to high-end housing, while the commercials and amenities are located along the River of Tempa, creating an eco-tourism trail that starts from the LKIM Fishing Hub and ends at the Wetlands Interpretive Centre.

Affordable Fishing Village
The vertical fishing village is designed to recreate the ambience of traditional fishing village as well as to establish an active and lively neighbourhood for the fishermen. The ground floor provides common areas for various purposes including market space, boat warehouse, docks and sports grounds. Open market spaces create business opportunities for the villagers where they can sell their fresh seafood and agricultural produce. At the upper levels, single loaded open corridors facing the river create visual connections besides providing planting space for herbs and vegetables, with the intention to recreate land space in traditional villages.

Complementing the proposed tourism activities at the LKIM Centre such as seafood market, restaurants, bazaar and prawning farm, some of the docks at the fishing village also serve as the starting point for mangrove cruise tours and candat sotong (squid jigging). To further enhance tourists' experience in a fishing village, the units are designed with individual rooms that can be rented for homestays, which could also generate a side income for the fishermen.

High-end Villa
This parcel is a strata titled land shared by 32 units of semi-detached houses and 8 units of villas. The villas are located right by the river facing the mangrove reserve, with private jetties where the tenants can dock their yacht. These jetties are linked with the riverside boardwalk that extends from the patio of each unit.
The mangrove views are prioritised for family spaces to introduce connections between human and the nature. Every unit has an infinity pool on its first floor facing the mangrove reserve, providing privacy from neighbours while creating a feeling of being embraced by the tropical environment when enjoying a swim.

High-end Condominium
The aim of this design is to create a lush tropical seafront environment for the residents, where the podium top is designed as a garden park with various facilities including basketball court, mini golf course, jogging trail, infinity pool and other indoors facilities such as gym, library, mini theatre and so on.

Located at a prime area of the whole site, the condominium is designed with the facade of each unit being angled towards the sea to maximise the views. On the other hand, the units facing inwards will be enjoying the view of the tropical garden park.

Every unit has its own sky garden which can be seen upon entrance into the house, creating a warm welcoming sense. The double volume garden is accessible from both living and dining room, which it can also serve as an outdoor dining area.

Penthouse units are located at the topmost level, each with a private roof terrace with wide-angle view towards the surroundings.
